It was interesting how the law at that time meant that the police would send one officer out on patrol with the British army and if he came into contact with IRA then he could request assistance from the patrol to arrest the individuals.....if it was just the security forces themselves then they can take no action....no asking questions or interventions unless a threat or risk of death is observed in their presence.
